In high school, I was on the newspaper staff and interviewed several students and parents for an article on the significance of the prom. One of the parents I interviewed became my mother-in-law.

Some of my fondest memories from childhood are times I spent with my grandmother “down in the holler”. Her house had no indoor plumbing or heat; she pumped water from her well on the porch; she had an outdoor john that butted up against the chicken coop; and the train tracks were close enough you could hear trains going by. To this day, I love the sound of a train.
